MegaJump Trampoline Park

Need to get the kids out to burn off some energy and the weather isn’t looking good? MegaJump in Borehamwood could be for you – and it’s fun for adults too (but surprisingly exhausting).

Last Saturday we decided to visit spontaneously and I was surprised how easy it was to book online that morning. I thought it would be too busy, but booking for two of us for the early afternoon was easy. MegaJump recommend getting there about 30 minutes ahead of time to sign in and sort out your special socks (£2 per pair). There are lockers (£1), toilets and an arcade. There’s also an upstairs café selling standard kids’ fare. Driving from Barnet you pass The Venue leisure centre on Elstree Way and turn left into Manor Way at the next roundabout. Parking is limited, so at busy times you’re encouraged to park elsewhere (like at The Venue, spaces allowing).

MegaJump has a 12,000 square foot “jump zone” with 117 interconnected trampolines with various features such as basketball hoops for bouncing “slam dunks”, Dodgeball court, a double lane foam pit and a giant air bag. They also offer themed events and sessions: trampoline aerobics, kids’ parties, live DJ set for ages 11 to 17 on Friday evenings, sessions for the under sevens and a soft play area for the under 5s (separately run by Jelly Bugs). You can also hire the whole venue by the hour for private events. So, lots of physical fun for all ages, however, MegaJump take safety very seriously and you have to sign a waiver for yourself and your children accepting the dangers, and a safety video is shown at the beginning of each session.

The verdict: my ten-year-old had a great time and likes the fact that it’s local. She was keen to try it out having been to Oxygen in Acton with the Brownies which was a huge hit. Comparing the two she said Oxygen had the edge with more features (especially the Bear Grylls obstacle course), MegaJump was just about trampolining. I think she was also amused to see her Mum barely able to keep up. I never imagined it would be so tiring – trampolining gives your body a full workout and I think I managed several minute-long bouncing spells. Tough going, but clearly worth the effort. I can still feel it two days later, so it’s got to be good. (What’s more, if it’s all about keeping the kids amused, you could have a detour past Elstree Studios and show them where Star Wars was filmed.)

Sunday: 10.00am–8.00pm

Only children aged 5+ can jump in the main arena during the above times.
All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult to the park and be available at all times.
