Despite how it might feel, it’s not all grim out there and Barnet is celebrating some positivity with its Town Centre Heroes project. It’s part of the Discover Barnet campaign to encourage residents to re-discover their neighbourhoods after such a challenging period, now that shops and venues are re-opening as Covid restrictions are eased.
With some inspiring company last night, the Town Centre Heroes exhibition was launched at a reception at Barnet Town Hall in The Burroughs. Mayor Alison Cornelius explained how the Heroes were nominated for their work helping the community during the pandemic before giving each of them a certificate.
I was thrilled to be nominated for Chipping Barnet along with long-standing local campaigner, Gail Laser, Alice and Michael Kentish of Hopscotch, Mike Noronah of Barnet Museum, Dan and Arta of The Wilds, Huseyin and Veli of Brothers Kitchen, the Voscou Family of Green Hill Greengrocers and Andy Gardiner of Greengrocer’s Choice. It was also great to see Charlotte French, one of the Heroes for North Finchley for her work with Barnet Breeze to help give women confidence to cycle (and she is pictured, left, with some of us below).
