Every September we have the chance to enjoy the wealth of creativity in Hertfordshire during this three-week “art journey” around the county when hundreds of artists open their studio doors, exhibit their works and offer workshops.
There’s a particularly rich concentration in and around Barnet. Highlights include Wood Street-based sculptor John Brown and artists exhibiting at The Pink Shop such as Charlotte Ellinas, Claire Pinney, Dorienne-Artdor Ceramics, Hilary Kidd and Lorraine Benton.
In Whetstone Temple Avenue Arts has fossil-inspired works by Liz Purkis and clay sculptures by Sarah Core. Crescent Creative in New Barnet will be showing embellished ceramic pieces by Angela Filby, expressive animal paintings by Parie Leung Watterson and devoré and printed textiles and photography by June Faulkner (who will be leading workshops to create your own painted silk scarf). Brightly coloured, nature-inspired paintings by Julia Elmore and graphic sculptures by Paula Barnard-Groves will be on show in their studios in East Barnet.
Apart from The Pink Shop which is open through the week, studios will be open for visits during the last three weekends of September.
Many more exhibitions, events and workshops are taking place around the county and you can check details on the interactive map on the Herts Visual Arts website and plan your itinerary.
