£18/15/7 (£2 concession online booking please email tickets@finchleysymphony.org)
Our joint summer concert comprises 3 pieces in total, 2 for choir and orchestra and I for orchestra alone.
The concert opens with Brahms’ thunderous 4th Symphony in E minor which has been praised as, ‘one of the greatest orchestra works since Beethoven’. The Symphony is rich in allusions and may have been inspired by Shakespeare’s play, ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’ which Brahms was researching at the time. The concert continues with Vaughan Williams’ Cantata, ‘In Windsor Forest’ which is scored for choir and orchestra and has been adapted from his opera, ‘Sir John in love’ based on Shakespeare’s ‘Merry wives of Windsor’. The concert concludes with Hubert Parry’s well known work, ‘Blest pair of Sirens’ which was commissioned to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. Do come along if you can. We think you’ll love it!
