Hyacinth Bucket has given herself to fine arts. She has joined the local painting class and is about to see her masterpieces displayed at a new exhibition. Unfortunately the local drama group has double booked the church hall. Upon investigation she discovers that the drama group is being directed by her neighbour
Emmet and many of her family and neighbours are already involved.
Hyacinth decides that she can add a touch of class to this otherwise lowbrow production, especially when she realises that the role of Lady Malvern is vacant, a part that she was born to play. Emmet, on the other hand, will do anything to prevent her getting involved and taking over. Of course, things don’t quite work out as Hyacinth anticipates. The more that she tries to raise the tone the more that her family manage to bring it crashing down.
This comedy was written for the stage by Roy Clarke, the script writer of the classic BBC sitcom “Keeping up Appearances” and features Hyacinth and many of her family and neighbours in some ridiculous and farcical situations.
