This exhibition explores over half a century of popular music in and around Hatfield from the 1930s through to the 1970s. Throughout the 20th Century the area grew as new businesses settled in the town and after the Second World War it was identified for expansion as one of a series of ‘new towns’. Premier of David Stoll’s ‘All the World’s a Stage’, based on text from Shakespeare’s ‘As you like it’. Still with Shakespeare, we have Songs and Sonnets by George Shearing and also Ernest Moeran’s settings of Elizabethan poems. In summery mood, we are very pleased to be singing two settings by Paul Ayres: ‘Sumer is icumen in’ (we hope it will be by then) and ‘Reasons for Singing’ based on a preface by William Byrd. Finchley Chamber Choir is currently looking for a few new voices. It is a friendly but hard-working locally based group of about 30 singers, usually giving five concerts each season in Trinity Church, Nether Street, North Finchley, N12 7NN, as well as other occasional performances at home and abroad and some BBC broadcasts. The regular rehearsal night is Tuesday (7.45pm - 10.00pm) at their concert venue. The choir performs the widest range and variety of music from the Renaissance through to new commissions, from unaccompanied motets and part-songs through to full-scale choral works accompanied by its sister organisation Finchley Symphony…
