Potters Bar and Barnet RSPB Group – Evening Illustrated Talk
Richard Bashford – Wildlife and Birds of Poland Join Richard on a virtual tour of Poland’s most well-known wildlife locations. Richard has made many trips to Poland over the last twenty years, and this talk will firstly illustrate the breath taking the world-famous Biebrza National Park Marshes – home to terns dancing over the wetlands and waders galore, including the bizarre Great Snipe and multi-coloured Ruffs. The fields and meadows here are also home to iconic species such as Corncrakes and Cranes. Snowdrop Festival: Benington Lordship
The gardens are carpeted in a spectacular display of snowdrops around the remains of the Norman Castle and surrounding moat. Hellebores, aconites and winter flowering shrubs are also in flower, as well as the coloured stems of acers, cornus and willow around the lakes. A collection of rare and unusual snowdrops has been built up over the years many of which can be found growing in the borders and a labelled collection of 200 varieties is kept in and around the walled kitchen garden. Refreshments are available on weekdays and Saturdays in the tea room, on Sundays in the village…

Eight acres of woodland garden is open as part of the NGS snowdrop festival. Refreshments available include home-made teas and warming homemade soup. Plants also for sale. These gardens are part of what was a Medieval hunting ground, so also look out for magnificent veteran trees. Book online here.
